Response Services Group UK Ltd and our registration with the Care Quality Commission

Under the Heath and Social Care Act 2008 all independent ambulance services that carry out any of the regulated activities listed within the Act must register with the Care Quality Commission.

The Care Quality Commission is the independent regulator of health and adult social care services in England. They also protect the interests of people whose rights are restricted under the Mental Health Act.

Whether services are provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies or voluntary organisations, they make sure that people get better care. They do this by:

  • Driving improvement across health and adult social care.

  • Putting people first and championing their rights.

  • Acting swiftly to remedy bad practice.

  • Gathering and using knowledge and expertise, and working with others.


Under the Health and Social Care Act 2008, all independent ambulance services that provide regulated activities must be registered by the Care Quality Commission from 1 April 2011.

Registration is focused on 28 outcomes of which there are 16 essential outcomes that relate to important aspects of care such as respecting and involving people who use services, care and welfare of people who use services and management of medicines. The outcomes are grouped into six main headings:

  • Involvement and information

  • Personalised care, treatment and support

  • Safeguarding and safety

  • Suitability of staffing

  • Quality and management

  • Suitability of management.


Response Services Group UK Ltd embraces and endorses this approach at every level of our services and complies fully with the essential standards laid out by the Care Quality Commission and the Health and Social Care Act 2008.

Clinical Governance

Response Services Group UK is a CQC-registered organisation that has expertise in delivering Clinical Governance framework for our own pre-hospital emergency response services. This covers all the areas in which we are responsible for.

We carry out monthly Clinical Governance meetings that cover and ensure we are working to best practice. RSGUK takes its Clinical Governance seriously and we ensure all current operational matters are discussed and circulated tour team.

What is Clinical Governance?

There are numerous definitions of Clinical Governance, but that which we prefer within Response Services Group UK Ltd is “a system through which organisations are accountable for continuously improving the quality of their services and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which clinical excellence will flourish”

The Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care, Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh state that any organisation or individual providing care above First Aid at Work must be operating within a framework of Clinical Governance and CPD. This includes Levels C through to H on the Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) skills framework.
